heard of the story going around the internet and media circles that 10,000 widerbeests died when crossing the Mara river. I have confimed with the government officials that this is not true at all!

Read the comments here http://www.africapoint.net/news/10000-wildebeest-dead/ from the Communications manager at Kenya Wildlife Services

Well I am sure glad it is not true. I know I didn't hear anything about on the news about it. Why would anyone start a rumor like this?

I wonder why someone would even want to start such a rumor like that? I am glad that you found it out to be false though.

I don't get the purpose of starting a rumour like this one either. I am so glad to hear that it is false. That would be a lot of dead wildebeasts. I had not even heard this rumour yet.

Wow, I saw the reply on the other site that states it was actually 5,000 wildebeests that drowned instead of 10,000. That is still quite a lot, I am glad I wasn't on a safari tour during that time.

So what part of this story is true exactly? Did 5000 die?

10,000 wildbeasts did not die and 5,000 did not die.Actually there is no accurate number as to how many drowned, but at least quite a number died, even upon googling online,no accuracy as to the information given.
