Is there a place to rent a vehicle? Or do you walk to most of the places?

for me i will use travel agents if i were to go on safari. i know of guys who prefer renting their own vehicles and do the tour themselves. But i would recommend that if you are moving around the cities use a taxi. The taxi guys will probably try and charge you twice the amount of money they normally charge other guys if they know you are a foreigner so be prepared to haggle the price is you are a price sensitive person but your question is very open so its hard to know what you mean when you say "how you travel"

So the taxi drivers are generally open to haggling? I thought the costs would be pretty well set but it's good to know that I could talk them down if the price is outrageous.

Well for me, it all depends on where I am going and how long it will take to get there. A taxi sounds like a practical idea for traveling long distances or for going out of town, and I'm pretty good at haggling with prices, so I'm glad that you can do that.

I must be pretty much of a wimp, I'm afraid. I have generally just paid the price and got too timid to ask for a lower price. How do you do that? Do you ask if they'll lower the price... or tell them how much you're willing to pay? I like the *idea* of being able to negotiate a price for something, but I'm not sure I could actually do it. I need some lessons!

From my understanding especially in Egypt the taxi drivers really expect tourists to haggle. You really are only making their day if you don't because they do try to charge more for tourists. As for me I generally like to walk when in a new place but will use a taxi if the place is not in walking distance.

When my friend was over there she said they expect people to haggle over the price. I think it is a common thing over there. And usually you can get a taxi at a decent price.

Thanks for all the tips. I guess I mean travel, as from the hotel or place you are staying and going site seeing or on safari?

Well then... I suppose that might be fun if I can get over not wanting to insult them. Like if they're asking twenty USD for a short cab ride, and I think it's worth $5, would that insult them, or do they already know it's just worth $5?

I really don't know if they get insulted, but I am sure they know what the going rate is. But they try to get as much as they can. It is just their way.

If you had organised your travel earlier, then it would be advisable to arrange for movements from the hotel with your organisers who can be example a travel agent. This would be cheaper and more convenient for you as you are given a specific driver to pick you and ou have his contacts.Normally if you have to get a taxi they tend to over charge you. Most of the hotels have their taxis which one can also use.

Yes it seems more sensible to try and arrange most of it before you depart.

So if most hotels have their own taxi's you can use, is that included in the rate you pay for the hotel as well or separate? If it is separate, what do their rates compare to the rates of other taxi's?
