I'm sure that Kenya has good/upscale hotels as well as dives like every other world city.  Is there a
hotel in the heart of the city that you'd recommend for a good stay?

I did some research into this and there seem to be a number of great hotels in the heart of Kenya.  A lot of places we go, it doesn't really matter too much to me what a room is like (well, as long as it's clean and safe) but for Africa we'd be spending more time in the room, so I'd want it to be one of the better hotels.  As much as I adore activities and safaris, I don't get along real well with extreme heat, so returning to the room for an hour here and there becomes very important.

I don't think that I would be spending a whole lot of time in the room but I definently would have to have some air conditioning in the room but I would think that would be in a lot of the hotels nowadays.

That would be the biggest deal-breaker for us... absolutely.  And not just any air conditioning... I'm afraid we'd
want a really *good* a/c system.   Cheesy  Africa is a fascinating place, but my body is more accustomed to a place
like Alaska.   Cheesy

AC is a definite plus to me as well. I assume most if not all the hotels have AC right?

I can't really imagine a hotel anywhere, let alone Africa or the tropics, that wouldn't
have a/c.  It would have to be pretty much of a dive not to offer that.  Then again,
every area has its dives, so be sure to ask when booking.

Okay, I finally started my research and I'd probably recommend the Nairobi Hilton.  High speed internet
in the business center (a necessity for me... I go nowhere without my laptop and taking my work with
me)  Smiley  and a health club.  It's close to the Nairobi Wildlife Park, too.  All that is nice, but free
magazines are extra nice, AND free chocolate always gets me.  :-)

Rates (at least for next April, which is all I know)  are very reasonable in my eyes, and are from $84 to
much more for a suite and whether you want the deluxe accomodations.  Oh, and the Hilton has a number
of restaurants... that's important!   Grin

I do like the comfort of the Hilton but then again I'd like to stay in a more traditional place too.

I like local and traditional for food and activities... but when it comes to hotels I prefer
something we're already familiar with so that there are no "surprises" for us.   Smiley

I much prefer somewhere or at least a name that I am used to for my accommodations. I can easily go with the native in restaurants and sights though.

Thanks for the information on the Hilton. I actually think that is a good price for a nights stay. I will have to check this one out. Thanks again.

Yes, that's the way we see it, too.  I've heard too many stories about "uninvited guests" (whether the four-legged
or eight-legged kind) sharing hotel rooms when someone decided to "go local."   Smiley   I'll chance the food a lot quicker
than I'll want to feel something scurrying over me in the middle of the night.  Eeeew!
