I think that a familiar hotel, such as the Hilton, would be very comforting to me. I think I will look into that, as opposed to somewhere that I really don't know much about. I don't like surprises in that aspect!

I don't either... for as much as I love trying new foods, at least with that, I'm awake and know what's going on. I'm not so brave when it comes to not being awake when I don't know what's happening around me.

Right! If anyone goes and can recommend a particular hotel I would greatly appreciate it.
Okay, I finally started my research and I'd probably recommend the Nairobi Hilton. High speed internet in the business center (a necessity for me... I go nowhere without my laptop and taking my work with me) and a health club. It's close to the Nairobi Wildlife Park, too. All that is nice, but free magazines are extra nice, AND free chocolate always gets me. :-) Rates (at least for next April, which is all I know) are very reasonable in my eyes, and are from $84 to much more for a suite and whether you want the deluxe accomodations. Oh, and the Hilton has a number of restaurants... that's important!

I think that most of the bigger cities around the world have decent (and familiar chains) lodging. Only places that are not safe would probably be rough to find a good place to sleep because the normal chains wouldn't have moved into those cities.

I can totally agree with you there. I wonder though, if the "well known named" hotels have problems with uninvited guests just as well as the local hotels?

Africa is the type of country where there are simply more creepy crawlies. You will get them in any type of accomodation to a certain extent.

This is true... I'd suppose that the upper end lodgings would make more of an effort to keep those creepy crawlies out of their rooms. I could be wrong but I hope not because I really don't want to find anything like that in my room.

I honestly try not to thing of the bugs that may be there in another country. I know there are some scary ones and all I can say is I sure hope that I don't run across them.

Thank you for the information. The Hilton sounds like a great place to stay. The price is not bad at all I have paid alot more. I will have to check it out.

I just got back from vacation in my own country (US) and came home with THREE bites. Ugh... and I thought I was so careful!
