I know that there is a rainy season in Kenya but I was just wondering does it rain nonstop or is it just off and on? And what are the temperatures during the rainy season. I don't so much mind rain as long as it is fairly warm when it is raining. Thanks

That is a very good question. I have always pictured Kenya as very hot. But that is just what I have pictured so I don't know. Awaiting an answer myself.

Kenya has such diverse geography, that, temperatures, rainfall and humidity vary widely. The country can be divided into four main regions: the arid north, the savanna lands in the south, the central highlands and the lowlands along the coast and the Lake Victoria region. The coastal areas are hot and humid though tempered by some much welcome sea breezes. Average temperatures vary little year round and range from 22°C minimum to 33°C maximum.

The central highlands and rift valley enjoy a pleasant temperate climate. Average temperatures vary from a minimum of 10 to 14°C to a maximum of 22 to 26°C. The Lake Victoria lowlands are hot and dry and temperatures can reach 34°C. Rainfall is also heavy.

The semi arid north experiences the most extreme variations in temperatures. This ranges from a maximum of 40°C in the day to 20°C at night. There are two rainy seasons: March to May ("long rains") and October to December ("short rains").

Thank you, I knew that there was a rainy season but I didn't know that there was a short and long one. Now I just need to figure out when is the best time for us to go.

This may be true for most people but personally I prefer rain to blazing hot sun.   Smiley
I'd choose the short rains, though, not the long rains which could ruin entire days.
Besides, October is my favorite time to travel.

Thanks for that information. I do not like very hot humid areas so I will have to think about traveling to the more cooler areas.

I'd really love to travel in the rain season to be honest.

ninikins why would you like to travel in the rainy season? Just curious, as I would think it would hamper any thing you would want to see in nature.

I mean, I'd just really like to experience it. I'd like to see everything, of course but it must be fun in the rainy seasons too.

I don't think I would want to go in the rainy season. I would hate to go that far and have to sit and watch it raining. I can do that at home.

I've heard that you ahve a chance to see different animals than you would see during the sunny days. It would be fascinating.

I guess you have a point about the animals, but to me it would be a bit too miserable. I am not a rainy type of person. I much prefer to sight see in the dry(not heat though)
