I would think that you would want a good camera for all the pictures you would want, a pair of binoculars and some comfortable clothes for the different weather you might encounter while out.

MOsquito or general insect repellant. A net to cover your bed, some good boots that are comfortable, chapstick and matches and maybe a walking stick or a knife.

This would depend on whether you're using an organized tour for your safari
or not.  If so, they'll provide a lot of what you'll need (except for your movie
cam and still cam, of course).  I highly recommend taking more than one camera.
If it's 35mm, the film could be lost in processing and if it's digital, the entire
camera could be lost sometime on your trip.  (Uh, trust me on that one... been
there, done that, didn't like it at ALL   Sad  )

Oh and you'll need your own stuff like repellant and sunscreen, even on an
organized tour.

I second multiple cameras, sunscreen, chapstick and a nice broad brimmed hat. Mosquito repellent is a must along with comfortable clothing and shoes. Maybe even some munchies to eat as well.

Very vital on the big hat, oh yes!  I'm not sure I'd want the wildlife I'd be seeing smelling that
I have food, though... but maybe they're not attracted to my favorite munchies... anything
chocolate.   Grin
